There are three kinds of people here—it is now apparent to me: the Tall, the Asian, and the Others. The Others are a silent majority—I am one, too—and they move in-and-out of the occasional Tall and the clouds of the Asian, silently. The place is majestic in its own right, just look at all the light-wrapped trees here!
I was here a year ago, approximately, and I loved it half as much as I do now. I think it grows on you, this place. There are so many paths to walk on to get to the same destination that I’m almost lost (except I’m somehow always able to find the Big Cat statue to guide me home).
This is, clearly, a student town. UC Davis is the major “thing” here and its presence is very prominent—every conversation circles around it; unless, of course, you are talking to the Tall or the Asian: their conversations are about them.
A lot of art here. And craft brews. And smokers. Lots of smokers, riding their bicycles… don’t ask me… it’s the thing here, amongst the Others. The Tall and the Asian do not partake.
I need to spend a week here at some point, watching the Others as they actually seem to be more interesting, as they try to fit with Tall. The Tall just gloat.
Well, let’s see if I can entice you to come here for a visit with some of my shots as I walk, qietly.
The flight there was pretty awesome and I was playing with the settings on the camera, so please excuse the excessive flight photos.
My version of Street Photography in-flight.
Beautiful sunset here.
Nice to see we are next-in-line.
Upper atmosphere lightning is amazing to watch from the flight. My neighbor is not amused, though.
Crappy photo, but this is the best one I got.
This is what I am seeing out of my window (except human eye is able to render way better than a camera, no matter how good…).
Davis is beautiful
You forget that this is a desert and enjoy the nice tree-filled pathways
Full of growth
And water… Seems like this place is full of water… You forget that it’s dry here at all times.
Love is here.
So are the succeeded walks… Works well for “love”, right? ;-)
So nice here. I need to get my jeans dirty and sleep on the grass here :)
Take a bike ride around.
So many exotic flowers, too. Come to Davis for a few days just to study the horticulture here.
This is, too, apparently, a flower…
Nice showers here.
Love the trashcans. This is, truly, a college town.
Interesting trash cans.
And absolutely lovely sunsets here.
This Dutch Bros coffee place is supposed to be amazing…. Nah, I don’t really like…
I like the flowers, though.
Don’t be afraid to look up.
So, I found a few flowers here, covered gently with a breathable bag. I wonder what this is and why this is…
Here’s another, with a tag.
AHA! This explains everything! Oh, wait…
More strage berries in this garden.
UC Davis campus is full of nature and niceness.
Waterfall! In California! :-)
Surrounded by flowers
This is UC Davis’ Food Science program’s official garden, including their wine grapes.
Chill coffee shops here, too.
Remember, this is a desert to begin with: if you don’t continuously water things, everything turns to dirt.
Here’s someone’s office.
Nice bike tunnel
This is a great city to visit for a few days. I bet going to school here is pretty nice, as well. There is, clearly, a lot of character to this place; its own, Davis character.
See you in a year!
