New Year’s Eve… Something about this holiday that keeps me coming back for more… Oh, yeah, it’s every year! Plus, being a Russian, at heart, I tend to celebrate mostly this holiday over the other, more typical ones. The country I grew up in—USSR—there were many Communist holidays and a handful of the ones that did not involve some kind of a parade that I had to learn some stupid song for. The two key ones are one’s birthday and New Year’s Eve—the only two holidays I really celebrate; and this year was definitely no exception.
My friend was visiting town, my brother graduated and was leaving us for Google, … there might have been some other events but I really don’t remember any of those. We had two cameras covering this and I’m sharing here some of the highlights of the days and nights of NYE, the Mummers parade, and walking around Philly, nursing the hangover.
We started here at Mad For Mex on 33rd and Walnut in Philly. Somehow I associate this place with a few big events in my life, like my graduation party, my … well … some more personal events as well, how about that?
I’ve been staring at this sign, occasionally, for years.
And the wall decorations, quite appropriate for the overall corporate theme. MadMex is one of the few corporate bars I like.
Philly streets, getting ready to celebrate the night.
Love this shot! Made it my cover photo on Facebook :-)
I don’t remember being here…
Texting… I like this shot for some reason. Reminds me of the spirit of the night—send everyone greetings and wait for the calls to come.
Oh, but of course! :-)
And this is pretty much how far we are from the boat, firing the shots. Pretty awesome location! Definitely need to check it next year as well :-)
Went to some rave.
I wonder why this is the only surviving photo… or is this the only one I’m posting?! ;-)
Mummers parade on New Year’s Day is always a great event to visit in Philly.
Everyone comes out. There are tons of skaters at the Love Park.
Gorgeous soberingly-chilly day.
Even Santa is out :-)
Dirty and overcrowded street; but why not?
People are happy. Mostly drunk. But also happy.
And did I mention how many people come out for this?
And how much trash this-size crowd generates?
I wonder what his are…
Such an innocent smile on this one…!
Do you see their costumes? They’re the box-trolls!!
Philly streets… Always something to see here :-)
We’re here at the “endup” of the parade. Insanity ensues.
This is pretty much what the streets look like at this point.
Lovely note on the car.
And the girls! Ah, the girls here!
And the … well … this …
And the more “girls” :-). Can you guess the location?
KNOW SNOB? SNOD? Ah, whatever.
Sexy Philly kids.
And the lights.
And a couple on a date.
And the local hotness.
And the busses trying to make it through the crowds.
Oh, you might have noticed… the date settings on the two cameras are out of sync… Whoops!
People who come to the Mummers parade…
And videotape it :-)
And look around.
And drink :-)
This is for the photo above.
Everyone could use some fresher breath…
He’s at the office, I bet.
This is something new, no?
Oh, and the mummers are everywhere…
So are some random aliens… :-)
And cold mummers.
Love this dude!
So, we went for a walk the next morning—checking out Philly of the 2015.
These are just some city views so I think most of these photos just speak for themselves. Enjoy.
Black Jesus butterfly?
This is a great way to end the celebration!
Cheers to you and a Happy New Year!
