Equal rights, equal access, and the Philly cops.

“What the fuck are you doing?!?!”—shouted a cop at me as I am just patiently waiting for the oversized load to come through my neighborhood to build a new building, right around the corner.

What the fuck am I doing?  Just taking his photo.  Nothing more.  I figured, since I’m parked and waiting, I might as well take a photo.

This got me thinking about a song… the fuck was that song…??  “brotherhood of men…. for whatever that means…” fuck! I cannot, for the life of me, remember the name of the song, who sings it, or any words, other than “brotherhood of men”, as I am watching this cop curse everyone out of his way.  I’m fucking parked here, dude!?!? The fuck you want me to do?  No?  Move my ass closer to the curb?  I’m on the fucking curb! Geesh! Ah, no photos?!  “brotherhood of men… for whatever that means…”

What’s Up?
4 Non Blondes

Twenty-five years and my life is still
Trying to get that great big hill of hope
For a destination

I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this brotherhod of man
For whatever that means

And so I cry sometimes
When I’m lying in bed Just to get it all out
What’s in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar

And so I wake in the morning
And I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
What’s going on?

And I say, hey yeah yeah, hey yeah yeah
I said hey, what’s going on?

And I say, hey yeah yeah, hey yeah yeah
I said hey, what’s going on?

oh, oh oh
oh, oh oh

And I try, oh my god do I try
I try all the time, in this institution

And I pray, oh my god do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution.

And so I cry sometimes
When I’m lying bed
Just to get it all out
What’s in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar

And so I wake in the morning
And I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
What’s going on?

And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?

And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?

And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?

And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?

oh, oh oh oh

Twenty-five years and my life is still
Trying to get that great big hill of hope
For a destination

Found it!  Aha!  It’s “brotherhood of man”, not “men”. Um, for whatever it means.

Here’s a YouTube version.  I like this one.

Just let this one sink in for a minute. This is late 80s, early 90s. The movement is gaining potential as the likes of me are still trying to impress some older chick from the 9th grade with my not-coughing-while-smoking routine. Am I cool or what?!

Almost 30 years later, I am supposed to be shrieking from a cop, trying to move a wide load from A to B…

I am, daily, confronted with the power struggle of the social strata, the sexes, the blah blah blah.  We have a new president with views that the Non Blondes would likely protest, and it’s 2017 outside.

For whatever it means…
