Multiple Stab Wounds May Be Harmful To Monkeys

The Onion: Multiple Stab Wounds May Be Harmful To Monkeys

funny funny funny!!! :)

Study on studies. Resolution: they suck :)

Question No. 1 (please be as specific as possible): Exactly how much of an idiot are you? More to the point: How arrogant and ignorant and out of touch with your body, your heart, your mind, your divine sense of self do you feel you are on a day to day basis? Are you, in short, a moron? How much of a moron? Too much of a moron to actually understand this paragraph? Please check the little box on the right. No, the other right. Thank you.

Ha ha ha!

So, this wonderful article posted on SFGate.com is about research studies.

You really have to read it for yourself as there is not much sense in me retelling.  One thing is for certain though.  Many research studies do suck!

See, I often employ a technique that I, in my head, call “you are stupider than I”.  I say things like “more than 70% of Americans don’t know how to achieve orgasm”.  I never quote a source.  I recall reading something like this somewhere.  That’s about all I remember.  Was it 7%?  Was it 70%?  I can’t recall.  Was this from a reputable source?  I wouldn’t be able to tell you.  No clue here.

So, read that story.  It’s really worth a few minutes of your time.  It’s also funny.  More importantly, it is largely true.

Do not ever believe everything you read and hear.  90% of things you read are made up on the spot by the respective writer (yes, just like this number I threw out to you).

You must see this presentation. It is a scientific breakthrough.

Rats can think like humans?!

According to an article on MSNBC, rats appear to have some capability to think and reflect on the acquired knowledge…

Where is this world coming to now?? :) I mean if this is how it’s going to be we’re all domed!

“Imagine, for instance, that you’re a student going into a classroom to take an exam,” Crystal said. “You will often have some idea how well you’re going to do on the test. You know before you answer the questions whether you know or don’t know the answers. This pretty complex form of cognition, known as metacognition, is at the heart of the human condition.”

Increasingly, evidence of metacognition is found in rhesus monkeys and other primates, but little research has been done on it in other mammals. Crystal and his colleague Allison Foote decided to push the limit and see if rats were capable of it.

This is rather interesting, especially thinking of animal rights and the related issues — can we really treat animals almost as inanimate objects? Do they “feel”? How, if so?

This could potentially open many new doors in science…

I’m curious to see where this research will endup.

Warning, this is a work of fiction!

All bibles should come with this warning!!

Actually, I find it slightly offensive that there is a bible at EVERY hotel room I go to… I was just at a fairly shitty hotel… Matter of fact, the absolute worst hotel I have ever been to… and… A BIBLE!

Whatever the case, funny pic:

Did you say “oral sex”???

Ok. I have no comments. This, to me, is f..ing stoooooopeed.

Oh, common!

The same virus that causes cervical cancer is the principal cause of throat cancer, according to a new study.

The research also suggests that unprotected oral sex is a major reason people are contracting throat cancer - not just smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, as previously believed.

Well, just read this article for yourself: “Oral sex can lead to throat cancer“.

Ginseng == decreased sexual potency

Overdosage can cause palpitations, insomnia, pruritus, heart pain, decreased sexual potency, vomiting, hemorrhagic diathesis, headache and epistaxis. Ingestion of large amounts can be fatal. Massive overdosages can cause hypertension.

LOL! Never knew this about Ginseng. Always thought it very nice, no matter the amount.

Really, think about it, just as your mother told you, too much of a good thing is a bad thing…

Naps are the key to all wisdom

ScienceDaily publishes a story on sleep but my attention was drawn to it by this blog.

The moral of the story, as you might have guessed, is that naps are very good. Well, that was well-known before. Anytime I take a nap in the middle of the day I feel a million times better. You know, those f’ing hungover days? Take a nap for a minute… Feel better? There!

But now we have some scientific evidence. See, this is true science for you — take something that’s a well-known fact, test it, confirm it to p<0.05 statistical significance, and vuala, you have your R03 NIH grant for 5 years :-) Life is good!

radially unstable motion

Exduco publishes an interesting article on the new research in fusion. Confining plasma in magnetic field is nothing new but explanations of the phenomena are lacking.

I like this idea of usig space plasmas (auroras and such) to try to explain tokamaks.

Anyway, here’s the article from Exduco.
